Squirrels!!!

Got any great suggestions on how to stop squirrels from eating my strawberries? I have several nice plants with ripening fruit. So far I have yet to eat a strawberry because the little varmits got to them first. I put some plastic netting over the plants but they just crawled under and took what they wanted. Worst of all, they didn’t eat the whole thing, just one bite to ruin the berry.

My 7 year old suggests electrifying the plants to zap the critters. Have any ideas?

Feed the darlings peanuts instead. Afterall, they are God’s creation. If that doesn’t work, at least they are enjoying delicious strawberries. My son would not reccommend zapping them; although I know someone who used to hunt and eat squirrel!

well, we had a serious problem with the little buggers last year because we had a bird feeder so close to the house. we did take it down because the squirrels were ruining our screens (i’m talking, seeing a spread eagle squirrel on the screen in the morning when we opened the curtains!). at the risk of bringing down the wrath of your readers, i will recommend you speak to ron about our solution. i will say that last year was all out war on squirrels, chipmunks, mice and weeds…
this business of subduing the earth is hard work!!

i also wonder about cayenne pepper, on the leaves? you could call primex and see what they might suggest, or check out the internet.

    good luck

Cats and dogs. Keep both a little hungry and watch all trespassers vanish.

i use steel traps and a pellet gun to put the fear of god into them. it works also you can put a bowl of antifreeze next the garden, if you are scared of killing the squirrels use panther urine or coon urine

Now where on earth does one go to get panther or coon urine? You can’t exactly buy it at K-Mart! 🙂 That’s the greatest suggestion for dealing with pesky squirrels I’ve ever heard.
